I really enjoy yogurt but have been trying to stay away from eating dairy products for the past several years now. I get bloated and my stomach gets achy whenever I eat anything with dairy in it. I tend to stick with soy milk and soy products for that reason, but, I also LOVE soy. I was so excited when I found WholeSoy & Co because they make Soy Yogurt that is made with Organic Soybeans. WholeSoy & Co has a store locator on their website, so that you can find their products in your local grocery store or farmers market.
WholeSoy & Co offers a huge variety of flavors in their 6 oz tub….Apricot Mango, Blueberry, Cherry, Key Lime, Lemon, Mixed Berry, Peach, Plain, Raspberry, Strawberry, Strawberry Banana and Vanilla. You can also get Plain, Unsweetened Plain and Vanilla in the 24 oz tubs. I got to try the Strawberry Soy Yogurt and Vanilla. I was so impressed with the quality, taste and texture of this yogurt that it is now my favorite. The strawberry soy yogurt is simply to die for! It has a creamy and sweet taste to it with little chunks of strawberries. The texture is thick and smooth…your taste buds will want more!
The Strawberry Soy Yogurt contains only 160 calories per 6 oz size. It is vegan and contains no casein, whey, gluten and is cholesterol and lactose free. It is made with organic soybeans and contains zero trans fat.
Of course, yogurt is great on it’s own and I could literally eat it right out of the tub everyday as a snack. I also like to mix it up a little bit and use yogurt as a great breakfast treat mixed with granola. I also love to use plain yogurt to make dip by just adding a packet of ranch dressing, which, makes it more nutritious vs using sour cream. Another family favorite of ours is to make fruit salad by mixing yogurt and adding real fruit.
ABOUT WHOLESOY & CO (from their website):
During the 1970s, WholeSoy & Co. founder Ted Nordquist led a double life – professor of Asian philosophy by day and tofu-maker by night. In 1975, Ted met William Shurtleff and Akiko Aoyagi, the authors of the Book of Tofu. From them, he learned traditional Chinese and Japanese methods of converting soybeans into dairy-like products. This meeting changed the course of Ted’s life. What started as a hobby for Ted quickly turned into a passion. Leaving his academic life behind, Ted began his mission to make the best tasting, most natural and nutritious dairy alternatives on the planet. Over thirty years later, he remains hooked on soy and is still just as passionate about crafting the world’s most delicious soyfoods.
Ted’s first venture was a small soyfoods plant near Uppsala, Sweden. This little plant, pieced together from used equipment and with just five employees, churned out two tons of tofu and tofu-related products each week. Ted was so dedicated to his trade that he and his wife Anne-Marie, along with their three young children, lived in an apartment above the plant. Up until 1990, his was the only soy plant of its kind in Scandinavia.
In 1994, Ted moved back to the United States with his family and started WholeSoy a few years later. The first product to be introduced in 1999 was our creamy soy yogurt. This product was so well received that it quickly became the best-selling non-dairy yogurt on the market. Though WholeSoy is now a little bigger, Ted can still be found in the kitchen “playing with soy” or sailing on the San Francisco Bay (his other passion).
