I am a self proclaimed clean freak! I always try to be prepared for the “unexpected visitor” to arrive at my house, by making sure that my house is picked up and clean every night and every morning. With that said, I look for household cleaning products that will get the job done right and a bonus is that they be environmentally friendly. SC Johnson has developed a new line of Concentrated Cleaner Refills in the 5 brands that we all know and love…Windex Glass and Surface Cleaner, Fantastik Kitchen Cleaner, Pledge Furniture Cleaner, Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom Cleaner and Shout Carpet Stain Cleaner. Each little bottle is available to purchase at SC Johnson online for only $2.50 each! One little bottle makes 26 fl oz of product.
So, I am sure you are wondering how they work. It’s so easy! All you do is pour the concentrated bottle into an empty regular sized bottle and then fill the regular sized bottle to the top with 3 cups of regular water and then gently shake to fully mix. The cleaning product works exactly the same as the original formula, as long as you follow the instructions on the bottle, to create the proper concentrate to water ratio. It’s great to think about how much money you will be saving by buying the concentrated bottles vs the full sized bottles. You can also purchase a starter kit, which, includes 2 concentrates and 1 empty trigger bottle for only $5.
Plus, the concentrated bottles are made from easy-to-recycle plastic that can be recycled in most community recycling programs.Check this out: “American consumers buy 320 million cleaning products in trigger bottles each year, and millions of them end up in landfills.” The goal is to make small change and in return, create a big impact. By re-using your trigger bottles and purchasing concentrated refill bottles, you could help eliminate all that waste. Just one concentrated refill bottle contains 73% less plastic than regular trigger bottles and is ALSO recyclable.
Small Change, Big Difference
Trigger bottles for almost all the concentrate brands – Windex®, fantastik®, Pledge® and Shout® – are already produced with 50 percent post-consumer-recycled content. The Scrubbing Bubbles® trigger bottle is made with 30 percent.
Choosing to refill has an even greater positive impact:
• Requires 79 percent less plastic than the standard bottles
• Avoids transporting 19 to 23 fl. oz. of water, depending on the formula
• The refill bottle can be recycled in most community recycling programs
But that’s just the beginning. If just 20 percent of the 320 million cleaning products sold in trigger bottles were refilled each year, it could:
• Save more than 7 million pounds of plastic – the weight of about 1,170 minivans
• Avoid using 3.5 million pounds of virgin plastic – that’s about 230 adult elephants weighing 15,000 pounds each
• Avoid transporting nearly 11.5 million gallons of water – enough to fill about 17 Olympic-size swimming pools
